Coctel de Frutas

It can take years to acquire a taste for powdered chili on fruit, if you didn’t grow up enjoying it. For those of us who love having this snack while in Juarez, it’s probably one of the things we miss the most about traveling there. Although this recipe doesn’t quite taste the same as when you are walking around at the Mercado, it comes pretty close.

  • 2 tbsp crushed red pepper
  • 2 tbsp lemon pepper
  • 4 tsp sea salt

  1. Grind all the ingredients in a coffee mill or in a spice grinder until you achieve a moderately fine powder.
  2. Cut up any fruit you might have on hand - we used mango, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, and we even threw in some cucumber.
  3. Arrange the fruit on a platter and sprinkle with the chili powder. Then, squeeze a lime over the fruit and enjoy!
