Spice Up Your Wedding!

Your wedding day can be the most romantic day of your life. The setting, the flowers, the attire and all the other arrangements evoke a sense of magic and excitement unlike any other day. Everyone looks forward to weddings and can spend hours afterward discussing even the smallest details. It is not only the charm we remember, but also the choices the couple makes that set each wedding apart.

An excellent way to give a wedding some personalization is with a themed wedding, an increasingly popular trend that can be anything from a traditional elegant Mexican wedding to a more casual Luau. They can be small – budget and all – or they can be very elaborate. “The secret is in the details,” comments Marci Dickerson of Dickerson Catering Group. Marci is an expert ambiance designer that helps brides transform any environment – like a bare tent into a luxurious setting – by using furniture, fabrics, lighting and other custom elements. “If your theme is unity for example,” says Marci, “use circles and spheres in the décor as well as in the invitations and centerpieces. The important thing is to use the same concept throughout from start to finish without overdoing it.” Most recently Marci planned a wedding for a bride from India whose groom is Scottish. “This has been the most elaborate wedding I have done in Las Cruces,” recalls Marci. The bride and groom decided on a very traditional Indian wedding with extensive use of fabric, as customary in India, throughout the décor. “Even the groom’s family wore traditional clothing from India,” says Marci. She suggests that special attention should be given to the overall consistency and detail to ensure that everything in the wedding from its color scheme to the wedding theme and everything in between will coordinate well, giving the wedding an aura of wholeness.

Every couple, no matter their personal style or their budget, can have a perfect wedding day. It’s all about incorporating your personality. Most brides find it fun to use their creativity to express interests and uniqueness at their wedding. And because themed weddings are generally uniform, it eliminates the guess work out of the planning. For example, I attended an outdoor wedding for a couple whose “thing” was to hang out with friends and drink apple martinis. They had an apple martini bar for guests to enjoy and their centerpieces were huge crystal vases full of green apples. Their cake also had green apples incorporated into it. Needless to say, the inclusion of the green apples throughout the décor was a very striking element that added visual impact and was very simple to plan.

Brides and grooms should get involved in every aspect of the planning including the ceremony, reception, dance, food and even the decorations. Whether it’s a formal evening event or a whimsical afternoon wedding party, brides and grooms should give it their personal touch. Remember that your wedding day is about having fun with the people who are important in your life!
